Team Fundraisers
Bar Mitzvah children are encouraged to support a chosen charity during their year of preparation. For his tzedakah (charity) project, Benjy will volunteer at Freewheelers Theatre & Media Company, an inclusive arts company where people with disabilities work alongside directors, producers, composers, artists and writers to co-create and produce engaging, thought-provoking, funny, joyous and highly entertaining theatre, dance and film. Benjy will spend time helping out in their music and drama sessions, assisting members to learn lines, supporting members with with stage direction and getting involved with the designing of shows.
Freewheelers Theatre and Media is an integrated theatre company which brings together disabled and non-disabled performers and supporters, production teams and the local community. They aim to change lives and perceptions of disability, and break down barriers, through high-quality, hi-tech, innovative theatre, dance, music and film. They run weekly workshops for everyone, currently in Leatherhead and Cobham. Members range in age from 13 up - there is no upper age limit. They offer a long-term, developing involvement in dance, drama, music and film-making, and opportunities for individuals to help with running the company and improving their life skills. People can gain experience that moves them on towards obtaining work, or they can make a bigger and bigger contribution to our evolving performance experience and widening portfolio of work. By working together on artistic activities, we find companionship & laughter, and change people's lives.
