Hi Everyone,
I have just led and co-ordinated a successful group mountain climb to the highest peak in England & Wales covering the dates of the 5/6/7th of April.
On this trip the team consisted of Myself, Roxy Mills & Lee Goreham who were both fantastic in supporting, encouraging and inspiring Craig, Leah, Georgia, Tyler & Ellis as well as 3 other young people from Basingstoke to complete the challenge. All the young people were participants on The BVA Mentoring Programme (a partnership with The Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner). The whole group completed the climb of Mount Snowdon (9 miles - total climb distance - up & down ) in a BVA Youth Team record of 4 hours and 41 minutes in aid of a local charity (Basingstoke Young Carers).
The charity provides respite to young people who have caring responsibilities at home due a variety of issues including bereavement, disability, mental health issues and addiction. They provide 3 Young Carer Youth Clubs and offer the chance for the young carer to take a break from their caring responsibilities by providing activities, information, support and guidance to the young person and their families. Youth clubs are run in school/college term time - Monday nights 6-8pm (School years 10, 11 & College), Wednesday late afternoon 4:30-6pm (School years 4, 5 & 6), and Wednesday nights 6-8pm (School years 7, 8 & 9).
