This year I am 'turning 70' and to celebrate I am taking on my biggest challenge to date. In April, I will be walking 800 miles in Spain along the Via de la Plata, one of the caminos, a pilgrimage route from Seville in the south of Spain to Santiago de Compostela in the north.
I will be walking 15 -20 miles each day and staying in albergues/hostels overnight. Carrying everything I need for the journey in my rucksack, hopefully I will arrive in Santiago de Compostela 6-8 weeks later.
Walking for a charity is not my main reason for walking the camino but I thought that I could, with your help, support Suffolk Accident Rescue Service as an extremely worthwhile cause.
Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) provides specialist training for doctors and paramedics and it also funds items of lifesaving equipment and drugs not found on frontline ambulances. This allows advanced procedures to take place at the scene of both accidents and medical emergencies. Often the first medical help on the scene, the speed of the their response can be crucial in a life-threatening situation.
The doctors and paramedics give their services voluntarily without any cost to the patient, ambulance service or tax-payer.
While you may be thinking of me undertaking the walk of 800 miles perhaps you could also think of, and maybe make a donation to this worthwhile cause.
Thank you.
