Hello,I have wanted to do a skydive for a few years, but my health has not allowed me to, now believe it not, (even though I am hooked up to a machine for at least 40 hours a week to keep me alive & kicking) my health is good enough for me to jump out of a plane. I have been super lucky & this is a Christmas gift. All money raised will go to Popham Kidney Support. I am now on hemodialysis & have been fortunate enough to be trained to do it at home, this means I hook up to a machine over night & the machine cleans my blood, doing the job of my kidneys, I do this 5 nights a week for a minimum of 8 hours although I usually do 10 as I love a snooze. This is a great treatment & the best option for me as this is long term. The dialysis machine I use is not portable, it is wired & plumbed into the mains, it's a great machine offering me the best treatment to keep me smiling & allowing me the chance to jump out of a plane. This does mean that if I want to go away for more than 2 nights I need to book into a local dialysis unit for treatment, which is super cool, but takes a lot of planning & coordination. I made a comment to one of my wicked nurses something along the lines of, 'it would be cool if I could learn how to use a portable machine and hire it, people can drive more than one car, how difficult could it be for me to learn another machine"? Also this all steamed from me wanting to go to Glastonbury Festival for the 5 days & do dialysis there, yes I have emailed Glasto to ask about them offering dialysis at their medical center & no I have not got a ticket..yet, I live in hope. There are portable machines available, but are not always the best long term option for someone like me & also it is not as black & white as just being able to hire one. My nurse suggested I speak with PKS to see if they could help me explore options. PKS have already been super helpful & given me a lot of time so it would lovely to support them in any way I can. Please share, TIA.
