This year I'm competing in the Great North Run to raise money for the Comfrey Project. The Comfrey Project is a registered charity which works with refugees and asylum seekers on allotment sites across Newcastle and Gateshead with the aim of improving their conditions of life and general well-being. It's a charity that I've been involved with for the last four or five years, both as a volunteer and a paid worker. Refugees and asylum seekers suffer hardship and privation in the countries from which they've escaped, in their journeys to the UK, and then in their lives when they get here. The Comfrey Project is 'a place to grow' for refugees and asylum seekers. Somewhere they can experience fresh air, healthy food, friendship, and all the joy that growing and eating your own produce can bring. Since I became involved in the Comfrey Project, many of its participants have become my friends; people from many countries that I am proud to know and in whom I can see so much potential. Please give as much as you can - as little as £4 can provide bus fars for a participant to attend a gardening session, and £5 will provide them with bus far and lunch. £10 would buy us seeds for a season, while £25 would purchase tools for the allotment and for only £100 you can pay for a day's gardening session. Thank you and wish me luck.
