If ever there is a charity close to my heart, it is Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS). My dad volunteered for over 40 years and still keeps very busy as Honorary President of the charity. SARS critical care volunteers help treat those very sick patients who require enhanced medical care before they reach hospital. This could be someone trapped in a serious road accident or someone who has suffered a life-threatening illness like a cardiac arrest. SARS volunteers bring additional skills and expertise to the scene aswell as equipment and drugs not available on frontline ambulances. They can help save someones life and they do it in their spare time and without charge! Two years ago I completed the Stowmarket half marathon and was blown away by the generosity and support I received in raising money for SARS. Since then, the charity has grown from strength to strength and has almost doubled in size, only made possible by the generosity of funders. It is really heartening to know that there are now more volunteer specialist doctors and paramedics trained, equipped and able to undertake this vital lifesaving work. To help keep this momentum going, I have decided to take on a completely new challenge of swimming a mile in open water at the Great East Swim on 18th June this summer. I have never done anything like this before, yet, as my picture suggests, I am a water baby at heart! SARS receives no government funding so any donation has an impact. Thank you for any help you can give me in raising money for this excellent cause.
