We have set up a Community Benefit Society called Pennine Community Power (www.powerinthecommunity.org) to enable us to issue share to the community. We raised more money through the share offer than we needed. The 10kW Bergey wind turbine was grid connected on 30th October 2012 and had by April 2013 already produced over 15,000kWh. PCP has 65 shareholders - all living within a few miles of the wind turbine.

Why they need our service

A community wind turbine reduce our carbon footprint and generate an annual income for at least 20 years that can be reinvested into the community for new projects. In a village with around 1000 people (including children)it is difficult to raise large amounts of money. Local residents have tried to raise money for a children's play area but not succeeded. A community wind turbine will enable us to have a regular income while helping the environment.

Plan and expected results

We expect the wind turbine to generate a surplus of around £70,000 in the first 20 years which will be re-invested into other community projects - decided by the shareholders. All shareholders will have one vote regardless of how many shares they own.
