Crafty Crafts is a friendly, monthly workshop for adults who are learning disabled, run by volunteers. It is both a regular event for some people and a drop in for others. It is mainly crafts, but the participants and volunteers both want to include new ideas, different crafts and skills.

Why they need our service

After talking to adults with learning disabilities at a social night in Belper we knew that people wanted to take part in regular arts & crafts activities. So we ran a pilot project last year including card making, mosaics & drumming. The group, & the volunteers who support it, decided to carry on meeting on a monthly basis. There is nothing else in the area during the evening that provides arts activities for this group of people. We want the group to continue & welcome new members.

Plan and expected results

At the moment Crafty Crafts are self-financing but need to raise extra money to fund special materials (such as clock motors, so we can make our own clocks or felt tops to make our own decorative felt pieces) and to learn other crafts - such as fabric printing or, as a change, the "craft" of drumming. So we will need to pay professional artists and musicians to help with these.
