The work that we do in schools has highlighted gaps in provision for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) young people across the region. In order to try and raise some money to fill some of these gaps to help our peer support work, Rachel Williams, our schools workshop deliverer will by cycling the Coast to Coast challenge route - Whitehaven to Newcastle - in August 2013.
Why they need our serviceAn important aspect of our work in schools is to signpost young people to youth groups and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people. As our work in schools has grown, we have noticed a significant increase in the numbers of young people accessing our Peer Support Project. This is especially true in the areas where there are no specific services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people. In order to meet this need, we need to grow this and other aspects of us.
Plan and expected resultsAny amount of money raised will help us develop our Peer Support Project to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans young people from all over the North West. Additional money raised will enable us to get young people to our events and activities by helping pay travel costs. Further money raised will help us increase our regional offer, especially in areas where services for LGBT young people are lacking.
