Attention Great Britons!
On Sunday 16th July I will be completing a 100kilometre bike ride from Bristol to Weston Super Mare (via some big hills) to raise money for Northern Lights Therapy Service in Scarborough. They are a specialist team of psychotherapists and counsellors dedicated to working with adults who have experienced or been affected by sexual abuse or exploitation, domestic abuse or trauma. They are the only such therapy team in Scarborough working in this area. I will be riding for my auntie Marny, who set up Northern lights, is a director and one of the team delivering this work. Big shout out etc.
Overwhelming evidence shows that this sort of treatment is highly effective and can have life changing effects on those who are supported. Some of my own research (oh yes, that’s right, available for a fee) has shown that wider societal benefits both to individuals and families (in terms of long term beneficial impacts on employment chances, crime reduction and on children (incl. their educational attainment)) typically generate benefits substantially in excess of the costs of provision.
Needless to say, this needs cash. If you could spare some of yours - whatever the amount - I would really appreciate it and you will be making a material difference to a small organisation doing great work. I am aiming to raise £1,200. According to their data, this would be enough to run 40 individual sessions (each cost £30), or one group session (which costs £100), per month, for a year.
I am well into a rigorous training schedule (typing this email). But press a few buttons, feel good and do good!! That’s my sales pitch.
