Doorway is a local registered charity based in Nuneaton. We were set up in 1997 to provide a range of services to advise and support homeless young people aged 16-25 in the County of Warwickshire. We aim to help young people overcome deprivation and aid them to develop skills to live independently successfully. Doorway works in areas of Warwickshire which are ranked within the top 10% most deprived Super Output Areas (SOA’s) nationally in the overall Index of Multi Deprivation 2015. One ward in Nuneaton is the most deprived in the County and is within the top 2% most deprived SOA’s nationally. In Nuneaton & Bedworth there are also wards which experience multiple-domain deprivation associated with income, employment, health, education and crime.
Doorway helps find accommodation for formerly homeless young people and provides ongoing specialist help and support to them. Many of them have other issues to overcome, such as historical abuse, ongoing mental health problems, low academic attainment and poor self-confidence. We help young people to realise their potential to make a successful transition into adulthood.
A key aim for Doorway this year is to raise the standards of the living accommodation for our young people to improve their wellbeing. To help with this we are seeking donations to help change people lives. Nothing is too small, we would really appreciate your help.
We try to ensure a coordinated and responsive approach to working with young people and encourage participation in positive activities to build young people’s resilience, social and emotional skills and raise their aspirations and confidence. Therefore, young people will be directly involved with the project, learning new skills and challenges in helping to complete the work needed. The project will not only improve their living standards but allow them to gain further DIY and home skills to use on their journey into independent living.
