Hey!

I am going to be running the TCS London Marathon on 2 October to raise money for the Bethnal Green and Bow Foodbank.

I've never been much of a runner and signed up to the London Marathon ballot on a whim and was very lucky to get a lottery place. My training began in March and I could barely complete a 5k, but have put the hours in training and have now done more exercise in the last few months than I probably have ever done. It's been a physically and mentally challenging training plan- especially during the heat wave but I am very much looking forward to the big day..

I've decided to run for a local charity who do some amazing work in Tower Hamlets- anything you can give will be greatly appreciated! Please see below for more info on BG&B food bank.

Bethnal Green and Bow Foodbank
Bethnal Green and Bow Foodbank is a local charity in Tower Hamlets that operates two food banks with an open door policy, offering emergency help, especially for those who may not meet the criteria for other food banks. They offer non-referal assistance to everyone who asks for it, providing food and and essential items such as toothpaste and washing powder.

During the pandemic they were giving out around 1000 bags of food per week. The organisation is concerned that this will likely rise due to the impact of the deepening cost of living crisis.

how your donations are spent:
  • £5 would pay for a children's food bag
  • £15 would pay for one family with a child to have emergency food supplies for a week
  • £50 could fill 10 bags with essential items such as toothpaste, washing powder, milk, rice, fruit and Veg.

If you are in a financial situation to be able to, please do consider donating to BG&B Foodbank- and if not, please send me podcast recommendations for my training!

Thanks!
Ellen
