I will be doing "The Dudley Trail" walk on Sunday 6th May for Dudley Mind's "Feelgood Choir". The Feelgood Choir began in October 2012 and has around 20 members who have a variety of mental and physical health problems. The aim of the choir is for people to come away from the choir “Feeling Good”
Many of our members find it hard to get out the house and meet people and have confidence and low self esteem issues. The choir is a place for people to come together with a shared goal and gain confidence and connect with others . The choir has been a tremendous success performing at several venues last year. The highlights of which was performing at Brierley Hill civic hall in front of 250 people for the Dudley Volunteer awards and more recently at the Community Choir Festival in Stratford. However due to recent changes in services Dudley Mind will not be able to continue to fund the choir from June of this year. A recent questionnaire shows how much the choir is valued by all of its participants
"We laugh and have fun and I have learnt a lot about singing and harmonies.
"It really does make me “Feel Good!”
“If I’m made to feel good by singing I’m able to cope with my physical Illness."
" We have all come together now as a group and become friends”
“It helps me to maintain a positive attitude. Previous periods of depression have not returned and it helps to keep my blood sugar low (diabetes).”
"I like the
“All welcome” atmosphere no matter what your ability or experience. Keep it going!”
“This helps people to get out, without places like this we would lock ourselves away again"
