Some years ago, OCRA convened a meeting of local City, County, and SCDC councillors, with representatives of local residents to discuss the problems. The issue was the subject of a North Area Committee meeting in January 2012 which was very well attended and clear concerns were voiced, in particular the need for another access road east of the railway crossing. OCRA will continue to press for the problems to be addressed and resolved.

Why they need our service

Fen Road and Chesterton Fen have attracted a lot of concern from residents in East Chesterton residents and on the Fen Estate. Increased traffic from Chesterton Fen,in particular heavy industrial vehicles all have to travel along Fen Road and through the Village along roads unsuitable and unable to cope. The Level Crossing is regarded as unsafe, and the existing traffic calming measures in Fen Road/Water Street contribute to unsafe driving practices and excessive property vibration.

Plan and expected results

OCRA supports the need to alter traffic calming measures to address the traffic problem. OCRA supports changes needed for safety at the level crossing to be radically improved. OCRA supports the need for an alternative access road from Fen Road east of the railway line to allow direct access to either the Milton Road or the A14.
