I entered a 6 day 155 mile run/adventure in Iceland http://www.fireandiceultra.com/ Are you crazy?What's wrong with you?You've done WHAT?Why?...are the responses that most people make. I respond by saying: -Yes I AM crazy but I love a challenge -There's plenty 'wrong' with me! However, when your heart misses a beat and you know you want to do that crazy thing, you should tune in and you MUST do your utmost to make the said crazy thing happen -I've entered a tough event to test my 'metal' and see what I am really capable of -Why? Well I want to fly the metaphorical flag for the thousands, tens of thousands, millions of children, women and men who are coping, surviving and thriving after sexual violence and sexual abuse. I want to 'take' them to Iceland with me, knowing that the tough, challenging but short 6 days that I'll face cannot in any way compare to the trauma they've been through. My own late grandmother (Nana Gina) didn't tell anyone about the rape she went through as a teenager, for the best part of 70 years. Many people still feel as terrified as my Nana Gina about telling and today society's responses don't seem that much better than in her day, survivors are still routinely disbelieved, blamed and judged.
