Ok, so the Flitton Potato Race is on Sunday 21st June 2015. It is actually being held on Fathers Day this year! So our family will be going along to support me, as they do every year. There is always a nice pint waiting at the end of the race and a family picnic with my husband and children. Although, there will be food available at the pub, on such a busy day, it will most probably be burgers and sausages etc....the event is very popular! ☺ Link to help give you a real feel for the race: http://www.flittonpotatorace.co.uk/ You can also find Flitton Potato Race, if you type that into face book! The race starts at the ‘Cross Keys’ pub in Greenfield and to run a mile race with, (for the ladies), a 10kg sack of potatoes. These can be carried over the shoulders, arms, back of the neck, however you find easiest, but you must not use any aid to help you carry them (such as ruck sacks etc). The race started many years ago in the village where I grew up and when I was just 7 years old, I remember sitting on the road side, outside our house, watching the runners go by – and said to my Dad, ‘One day I want to do that’. There were no women competing then, that I remember, but now the race is open to men, women, teams, children and there are lots of fun activities planned throughout the day for the whole family, with the race finishing at the ‘White Heart’ pub in Flitton. I have run the race for the last 3 years and this year decided to raise money for the Northamptonshire Carers, who have helped my family and I so considerably, during the last couple of years. With thier help, I have managed to turn myself around and have now become a Peer Support Worker for them. It would be lovely to see some supporters cheering me, on the day!
