Our youth circus exists to support the health and educational improvement of young people. By supporting young people to develop confidence , creativity and team working skills they will develop skills that will assist with their future education and employment progression later in life. The kinaesthetic learning that our sessions are based on is particularly beneficial for young people who don't respond well to traditional learning techniques.
Why they need our service80% of the people that we plan to work with are from the burngreave Southey, Shiregreen, and Brightside wards of Sheffield. These are some of the most deprived areas in England. They have high unemployment, with 28% of people claiming benefits compared with a Sheffield average of 17%,. These wards also rank poorly in measures of educational attainment and absence from secondary schools. As a result of this disengagement from education, there is a growing number of young people becoming NEETs
Plan and expected resultsOur project will improve the health , education and employment prospects of the young people that we work with. Obesity is a growing problem throughout the UK, in is a particular issue in North East Sheffield. By engaging young people in regular physical activity participants health will improve. The confidence that participants gain from achieving tangible results will encourage them to engage more in other areas of education and training.
