IBS are establishing a Handyman Service for the Blind. A mobile maintenance service will enable a visually impaired person to allow a known, trusted and competent IBS representative into their home to undertake building maintenance, safety and improvement work, decorating, plumbing, repairs, window cleaning, gardening and manual handling.
Why they need our serviceBeing visually impaired limits the daily skills you can undertake safely and certain jobs around the house can be a daunting task even for people without disabilities. Without our handyman who can be relied upon, this would be difficult for members to access. They can trust our handyman to be reliable, friendly and competent. Vulnerability is one of the key issues faced when inviting someone into your home who is not a known individual.
Plan and expected resultsAt present we have a small van but the success of the service is dependant on offering it to a wider range of service users. If we could purchase our own larger and better equipped van for the project, it would enable us to offer a more streamlined service and many more blind and visually impaired members will benefit from this practical support. All donations, large or small help to run the service, we are really hoping to receive enough donations to help towards upgrading the vehicle.
