The principle project activities will be designed around the needs of individuals within a group context. Utilising low level outdoor activities such as geocaching, archery, indoor climbing, outdoor climbing and abseiling, cycling, flag walking, fabric bombing and campfire activities participants will be challenged to achieve a long term behaviour change to physical outdoor activity.
Why they need our serviceThe North East has some of the most challenging health issues in the UK: smoking, obesity, CVD, diet, premature death, mental distress, and physical inactivity. Many of these are lifestyle related and stem from poor lifestyle 'training and motivation' and it is expected that levels of inactivity and numbers of obesity are likely to increase.
Plan and expected resultsThe principle aim is increased levels of physical activity in people in our most disadvantaged communities (top 20% IMD) and a demonstrable commitment to sustaining and or increasing those levels towards the recommended level. We will track individual's progression as well as their motivation to take ownership for their health and well-being. Measures will include regular attendance of the programme and the uptake of wider health and fitness activity outside of the programme.
