Waltham Forest Disability Resource Centre, founded by disabled people 36 years ago, provides essential services for local disabled adults. Based in Leytonstone, our mission is straightforward: to offer a range of tailored weekday activities that disabled people can choose from, as part of their lives in the wider community. Whether someone is interested in one activity session a week or several, or just wants to attend some social events, it’s up to them.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
Waltham Forest Disability Resource Centre, founded by disabled people 36 years ago, provides essential services for local disabled adults. Based in Leytonstone, our mission is straightforward: to offer a range of tailored weekday activities that disabled people can choose from, as part of their lives in the wider community. Whether someone is interested in one activity session a week or several, or just wants to attend some social events, it’s up to them.
- Inclusive Community: Our Centre offers a safe space where disabled adults can build self-confidence, make friends and stay active and creative. Activities include dance, relaxation, fine art, needlecrafts, sports, karaoke, and a community choir. And we hold monthly social events and a Saturday Stitching Club that foster connections between disabled and non-disabled people.
- Affordability Matters: 123 local disabled adults have used our Centre over the last year. And over 70% of them are “self-funders,” covering the cost of their own daytime activities. Balancing our operational costs with keeping our service affordable for users has always been a struggle. But now our financial situation has become increasingly challenging. The impact of Covid lockdowns depleted our reserves, while rising running costs due to inflation have strained our budget.
