There's a hole in our hosepipe.......
Growing People is a small charity based in Letchworth Garden City which helps local people with a mental health issue reclaim the quality of their lives.
We provide social and therapeutic horticulture sessions which use gardening to reduce the misery which mental health problems can cause. We offer half day therapy sessions, run by a qualified horticultural therapist supported by trained volunteers at The Letchworth Centre for Healthy Living and also at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage.
Social and therapeutic horticulture is recognised as a valid treatment for mental distress. Shown to lower stress, boost self esteem and reduce social isolation, it provides a source of meaning, purpose and hope.
Many of our gardeners have been unable to work for a long period of time, they often live with hardship and may be vulnerable and socially isolated.
On Sunday 30th April our walking team is taking part in the 2017 WH Walk to raise money to pay for therapy sessions and much needed gardening equipment http://www.whwalk.org.uk.
It costs £30 to pay for a therapy session, by sponsoring our walking team you are helping us to offer free therapy for those most in need. 25% of the money we raise will go to support other local charities supported by the Rotary Clubs who organise and marshal the walk.
