Ysgol Tir Morfa wish to build a hydrotherapy pool in the existing school hall. Ysgol Tir Morfa will employ a Hydrotherapy Pool assistant to support pupils coming in for 1:1 sessions and small group sessions. The pool can be accessed by any children or adults in the community who have physical disabilities in the evening and weekends. Ysgol Tir Morfa want this to be a community facility, as our county does not currently have one, with people having to travel to Conwy or Flintshire.

Why they need our service

Ysgol Tir Morfa do not have a hydrotherapy pool. A hydrotherapy pool develops communication for all pupils particularly those with profound and multiple difficulties. It is a physical therapy programme under the direction of the physiotherapist so develops gross motor skills for pupils. It encourages stretching of muscles particularly for pupils who are wheelchair users and helps develop tracking systems in all pupils. It promotes pupil wellbeing,

Plan and expected results

Hydrotherapy has been proven to improve movement, provide postural support, and promote relaxation of spastic muscles, improved circulation, and strengthening, allowing a variety of fundamental motor skills to be performed, relative to an individual's skill level. Aquatic activities also provide opportunities for social interaction and play, which can facilitate language development and improve self-esteem, self-awareness, and sense of accomplishment. NICE support this therapy.
