
The I.T. Resource Centre which opened in 2000 addresses the educational and training needs of our community. Training needs are met by offering one-to-one tuition, Learndirect courses and accreditation through The BCS for ECDL and City & Guilds for Numeracy and Literacy qualifications. We also run non-accredited courses such as Basic IT; Basic Sign Language; Greetings Card creation; Intergenerational learning, Adobe Photoshop, Job Club and group sessions for people with mental illness.
Why they need our serviceShotton Colliery has just over 1,000 (42%) of adults without a qualification compared to the national average of 33%. We also have one of the worst unemployment rates in the UK, currently standing at 36% compared to the national average of 16.2%.
Plan and expected resultsThis year 272 adult members have used Shotton I.T. Centre to access the wide range of services we offer including Basic Skills in Literacy, Numeracy and I.T.; Sign Language courses; Stroke Group; help in writing or improving CVs and/or to access the internet for Job Search or research. There has been 131 youths using the Centre, 36 of who are new youth members.
