In 2007, Sarbjit Athwal was the key witness to an ongoing investigation involving the disappearance of her sister-in-law, Surjit Athwal. She risked her life and spoke out against her in-laws, despite receiving continuous threats along the way. She fought for justice for nine long years and as a result, her brother-in-law and mother-in-law were both sentenced to life in prison. During the trial, Sarbjit saw a lack of knowledge and support available around these issues and wanted to make a change. She wanted to break the silence to help save lives. She rebuilt her life and founded True Honour in 2015 to encourage others in similar situations to come forward and speak out.  True Honour is committed to:•raising awareness of hidden issues (including honour-based violence, domestic abuse, forced marriage and honour killings)•providing support to victims and their families•providing training and education to frontline professionals (including the police force, the legal, health and education sectors) True Honour is a small but local charity that relies on donations and the support of volunteers, to deliver vital training and support victims.
