Mentoring and support for Children and Families

"Our Place" Community hub was started in 2011 by Kelly Round. Kelly was determined to help the local community, and was fully aware of the need for a mentoring service to help disadvantaged and abused children. Kelly immediately began recruiting suitable candidates to operate as mentors, and in January 2012 Marie joined "Our Place" to begin her training. The CV Marie wrote to Kelly at the time is below. "Having just moved to Sutton Coldfield with my two children, I wanted to volunteer closer to home and give something back to the community. 'Our Place' seems like the perfect organisation to do this within, because they are providing such a crucial service to the local community" Marie began her work at "Our Place" and loved helping the children as a mentor. During her time at "Our Place" she helped many children re-gain a normal family life and give them back the self respect and confidence that they had lost. Therefore it is so important that the work Kelly, Marie and all the staff at Our Place have started, continues for many years to come. To ensure that "Our Place" can provide the wonderful service it does, it needs help and donations where possible, as without this help it may struggle to survive. That is why Marie's family and friends have decided this year to help "Our Place" raise the much needed funds to continue the wonderful service it provides. As a family, we shall be entering a team again in the 2018 Great Sutton Fun Run, and raising cash at charity events where possible, so everyone's help is needed. Raising Funds also allows Marie's family to say thank you to Kelly and all the staff at "Our Place" for giving Marie the opportunity to complete the work she loved doing so much before she heartbreakingly lost her fight with Brain cancer in February 2017.
