In a bid to improve to my physical and mental health, I have committed to raising the equivalent of £10 per mile that will be invested in young people who have entrepreneurial or social action ideas that they want to make happen.
Urban Generation Trust (UGT) is a new charity that aims to create access and opportunities for people who are currently excluded from finance, business and decision making and therefore feel trapped in their situation. UGT focus on addressing the inequalities faced by BME communities and Women and in future aim to find sustainable solutions to these issues.
In the current climate, where racism has been mainstreamed and the divide between rich and poor is widening I am determined to do my bit to make some change this year even if it is on a small scale.
I believe that small scale change and achievement creates ripples that develop into waves of inspiration for greater change. I have seen this.
I am on instagram- @jackiewalks2020 and facebook page- jackiewalksthrough2020 where you can follow my progress daily.
There will be 8 young people that get funding and mentoring support and two organisations that work with young people to improve their life skills & financial literacy and encourage social action will be funded and provided with speakers from the field of interest.
I have been walking for nearly a month already, to show my commitment to you (and make sure I can do it!) I have managed to walk 152 miles in 26 days. Thats an average of nearly 6 miles a day. I work from home most days so this is taking a conscious effort. Last year, my daily average was 2.5 miles so you can see this is a challenge for me.
I hope that you can find it in your heart to support me throughout the year and help me to keep up the momentum. If I can get 1000 people to sponsor me £20.20 we can reach the goal.
Better still join me in the walk and become a fundraiser too, together we can all feel better physically and mentally and help to make change in 2020.
