In an effort to get fitter and healthier, Marie and Jennie joined a weekly beginners running club in January which was quite tough for Jennie as she had never even contemplated running before and although Marie did plenty of walking, she had not run before and certainly not at 8:30pm in the dark of winter!
Sadly Marie's course was cut short in February when she fell over on her wet kitchen floor and broke her arm and Jennie's training has been fraught with intermittent calf pain, but we have both persisted in our own ways, training when we could - often in the dark and sometimes rain, running around our village, and scaring the local wildlife!
Anyway, back in January with the inspiration of starting the running club, getting thin (because all runners are thin - right?!) and of course healthy, Marie and I decided to enter the Color Obstacle Rush at Windsor Racecourse on 7th May. It looked like a lot of fun - running, climbing through and over inflatable obstacles and getting dry paint chucked at us from all directions - what's not to like?!
So, the event date was getting closer and closer, training was getting harder and harder to find time to do and alas we have not (yet) reached our goal of being skinny and fit, but we decided to give it a go - and despite our nervousness at being the last person back at the end of the course, getting stuck on the obstacles, or just keeling over due to lack of fitness, we did it -and enjoyed it!!
We both never thought we'd ever take park in an event like this, and although proud of ourselves for doing it, the photos of us are not a pretty sight!
If you fancy having a giggle at our expense, please make a donation to our nominated charity, Parenting Special Children, and we will send you the embarrassing photos of our Color Obstacle experience!
Parenting Special Children is a charity close to our hearts as they support parents of children pre and post diagnosis for a special need such as Autism.
