One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives, whoever we are and whatever our background, history or disposition. Mental illness is non discriminatory. And yet it is a condition most of us fear in ourselves and shun in others. For years mental illness has been chronically misunderstood and underfunded. People suffering are often rejected from society or left unsupported and ignored as they continue to suffer and sadly sometimes die. Those people are not of a different race in some far-off war-torn country, but us - our friends, neighbours, work colleagues, service men and women, family and ourselves. Mind is a mental health charity, the one I have spent most of my adult life supporting, and for all the reasons above it has been the Cinderella. But I hope we can all see that attitudes are changing and there is a will to do more. So, for those of you that haven't met, here is my dog Wilson. He's a charmer, somewhat of a looker on the Beagle Beauty scene and his ambition is to travel, meet people, world peace and become a Pets As Therapy (PAT) dog. He's Walking the Dudley Trail with me and some of our friends and even has his own Fundraising page which he would love you to visit too! "We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets the support and respect they need and deserve."
