Thank you so much to all who have donated so far. Your support has been amazing !
This year the Women’s Centre for Calderdale and Kirklees will celebrate 30 years of providing support to over 100,000 of some of the most vulnerable women across the Borough’s and their families.
In order to raise much needed funds, on Thursday 30 April, I will undertake a lone 30 mile walk in one day. Starting around 06.00hrs and aiming to finish by midnight !
WomenCentre delivers services to women during periods of crisis in their lives including those experiencing acute and chronic mental health difficulties, those that have been in contact with the criminal justice system, women refugee and asylum seekers from often brutal regimes, those with drug and alcohol problems and victims of domestic violence and their children.
The Centre’s work is focused on holistic care of the woman and her family, some of whom may be in danger of having their children taken into care and those whose children are already being looked after by others.
This walk is something of a metaphor for the life journey undertaken by many women. I am fortunate in having my family to support me with refreshments, clean socks etc. along the route and WomenCentre will provide a much-needed rest and a chance to put my feet up at the half way stage. I will arrive at a comfortable and safe point when I eventually fall into bed that night ! This reflects the journey so many women have taken over the years. They can feel very lonely and isolated, needing intermittent help and support along the way. WomenCentre will often be their half way point, supporting them on the upward journey to a safe and warm place in their lives.
Thank you so much for your support !
