Over the years I have run many races for many different charities. At 63-years-old I may not be the fastest, but I do still like the challenge of a run. This year I wanted to fundraise on behalf of a locally based charity, so it seemed appropriate to run the Bristol Half Marathon for Bristol Refugee Rights. The charity I have chosen to run for is Bristol Refugee Rights. This wonderful charity supports and advises refugees and asylum seekers, many of whom have fled terrible disasters and suffering in their own countries. They have also faced perilous journeys to arrive here and have lost everything they own - including sometimes family members. Many are extremely traumatised by their experiences. The charity aims to help in all kinds of ways (view their website or more information). Assimilation into UK culture is a key part of the work of BRR and they teach English as a foreign language and explain about cultural differences and attitudes. Ideally I would like to work as a volunteer for this charity, but sadly I have to keep up the day job as I do need an income. This is my way of trying to help this worthy cause.
