We provide individual emotional support for clients around their loved ones substance misuse. Support and advocacy with social workers and other authorities around gaining residency orders for the grandchildren, court orders, guardianship, and case conferences. We support families on financial issues, debt, benefits, ie tax credits, family allowance etc. We provide complimentary therapies, respite holidays and facilitate Kinship Care groups.
Why they need our serviceGrandparents and aunts and uncles who are looking after children due to the parental neglect. Many families who suddenly find themselves in their later years having to look after these children because social services have taken them from the parent. These Kinship Carers rarely get any help from authorities unlike foster carers who get a range of financial , parenting and respite assistance.
Plan and expected resultsWe currently have 45 Kinship Families on our client list with 68 children between them. We aim to help them stay together as families (keep the children from going into care) and get help with appropriate housing, childrens clothing and equipment, eg. computers for older children. Our Kinship Care group has been very proactive with trips to Parliament to advocate for the needs of such families.
