The Project will completely refurbish & update the school library. It will provide a range of new shelving to make better use of the space available.New seating and work areas will provide a comfortable environment for pupils to research topics and choose books. It will provide a useful space where reading volunteers can listen to the pupils read. The library will be stocked with a range of new books. We will target some of these purchases at groups of pupils who struggle with literacy.
Why they need our serviceLarkfields Junior School is proud of its commitment to learning. In order to maintain & improve literacy standards, changes are needed now to improve the provision of library facilities for future generations of pupils. The refurbished library will also be the venue for the newly introduced Homework Club. This initative benefits pupils who may struggle with homework by inviting their parents or other family members to attend the club too.
Plan and expected resultsThe library refurbishment is almost complete... The shelving & furniture has been assembled by some willing parent & staff volunteers to whom we are very grateful! The Year 6 pupils have been helping to sort out and put the books on the shelves. We hope that the work will be completed before half term. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts and helped us achieve our goal for the 2011-2012 school year.
