Homelessness has always been an interest to me. I think its because it would be so awful not to have the safety and cozy comfort of a home.
Last year, I was a volunteer for the roving winter night shelter. I knew that there was a problem with homelessness in Wellingborough but to be honest I didn't realise the depth of the problem.
This year, the Wellingborough Homeless Forum are setting up a permanent Winter Night Shelter between November 2018 and March 2019. This is much needed and will sleep up to 12 homeless people per night, on every day of the week.
To enable the Night Shelter to run, urgent funds are needed. It will cost £2,000 to get the electrics sorted. Then there is the cost of beds, sleeping bags, food, drink and general running costs to name a few.
I am a member of Wellingborough & District Lions Club. It is our aim to serve the community. As a club, we felt that the Winter Night Shelter needed our support so we have planned a SleepOut event which will take place overnight on Saturday 6th October 2018. I am helping organise this event and will be sleeping out under the stars with the other fundraisers too.
Please donate to this cause and keep the homeless people of Wellingborough safe and warm this winter.
