18 months ago I started running and I could not believe how refreshed my mind felt on return from my runs. A year later my little legs are still running and so, I am taking on the challenge of the Hampton Court Half Marathon which is Sunday 18th February.
I have spent many weeks throughout the winter months bracing winds and rain (sometimes I did catch a glimpse of the sun) and for those of you that know me well - i hate being cold so this has been a challenge in itself.
Having been part of the charity sector for many years, I can't possibly undertake such event without taking the opportunity to fundraise and raise awareness of great causes.
My registration costs will go towards two important and vital children's cancer charities, Momentum, and, The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust.
I am also raising funds for ECL (Elmbridge Community Link). I currently work for ECL and our organisation provides a range of fun activities for young people and adults with Learning Disabilities (LD) and/or autism within Elmbridge. The activities are run by wonderful staff and volunteers and beneficiaries gain vital life skills and experiences. Carers are also given the opportunity to benefit from a period of respite on a regular basis.
The funds I raise will enable to charity to continue providing opportunities for our beneficiaries and carers and support aims to prevent isolation of individuals with LD and/or Autism within Elmbridge and surrounding areas.
It would really motivate me further to achieve my target time if I know my run is able to help others within our community - i will certainly let you all know how I get on and I may even post a picture of me in running action :-).
Thank you so much for all your support. Marie xx
