I retired from full time work this time last year and, having done 3 London Marathons when I was much younger, I have lost over a stone in weight and have taken up running again. I want to complete the personal challenge of a significant run before another milestone birthday early next year reminds me that I am not as young as I feel! The Great South Run is a fantastic local event, running 10 miles around Portsmouth.
I am raising money for The Avenue Centre. This charity, based in Southampton, opens for 3 sessions each week and gives support to families referred to the centre with pre-school children who are living under pressure. Both Tracey (my lovely wife) and Katie (my lovely step daughter) work for the charity and, in a climate of uncertain funding, any money raised will help this vital work continue.
Training is well under way (and some of this is feeling as tough as the run itself in the hot temperatures) and your support will inspire me, just as Tracey, Katie and the team at the Avenue Centre are an inspiration to me.
