Hi thanks for looking. On Sunday May 3rd I will be taking part in the Black Countries' Dudley Trail to raise funds for Dudley Mind mental health charity. As 1 in 4 of us will suffer with a mental health problem at some point in our lives, the charity plays a vital role in supporting people to recover from what can be the lowest point in their life.
I will be raising money towards two projects run by Dudley Mind that, without further funding, will not be able to continue. The first project is "The Feelgood Choir" with most of our members having longterm physical or mental health problems and many finding it hard to get out the house and meet people and having confidence and low self esteem issues. The choir is a place for people to come together with a shared goal and gain confidence and connect with others. As one person said:" “This helps people to get out, without places like this we would lock ourselves away again"
The second project will go towards supporting our self help and Peer Support Groups. These are for people who experience a variety of mental health problems. It is a place for people to come together maybe once a week, or once a month with others who share similar experiences. Having a mental illness can be very isolating and a frightening experience. Having these groups enables people to share experiences and get support from each other. One member explains: "For me the group gives me somewhere to meet people with the same sort of issues, a chance to meet new people and a reason to get out of the house."
Anything you can give will be really appreciated and if you are a UK tax payer gift aid really does help us make your donations go a long way. Thank-you :-)
