Hi,
I'm Andy Hollinshead and I broadcast on MKFM every Sunday night between 7pm & 9pm. Anyways...
...MKFM's Big Boss Chris Gregg has finally agreed to a night out on the town, unfortunately for me it is not what I had in mind...
On Friday 22nd April, myself and other fundraisers (including MKFM's Vicki McCarthy & Big Boss Chris Gregg) will be bedding down in cardboard boxes, on the streets on Central MK with the aim to not only experience the conditions that rough sleepers have to endure every night, but to also gain sponsorship and raise money for MK YMCA.
So why am I doing this?
I was shocked and saddened that despite helping 500 young and homeless people every year MKYMCA has just lost £194,000 of council funding.
The MK Community Foundation reports an alarming 1,250 people recorded as homeless in Milton Keynes.
BUT GET THIS!!! That report doesn't take into account people who are sofa surfing (moving from one friends couch to another as they fight to stay off the streets). So what is absolutely terrifying is that apart from the fact that the real figure is very much higher no-one actually knows what it is.
MK YMCA is the only emergency accommodation provider in Milton Keynes for people aged 16-65. It also recognises the need for young people to secure long term accommodation whilst developing the necessary life skills to achieve independence. It aims to tackle social exclusion through the provision of safe and secure accommodation as well as the delivery of learning, volunteering and social activity programmes.
MK YMCA is hoping to raise £10,000 in total, so whatever you can afford to donate, big or small, please donate, every penny helps and your sponsorship will go towards helping people in crisis.
I've set a personal target of raising £500 but I'd like to try and beat that by a long way. With your help that will happen.
Thanks in advance for whatever donation you can make. Please also like and share on Facebook.
