Mt. Snowdon Hike for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia

  About sickle cell and Thalassemia:
Sickle cell and Thalassemia is a debilitating chronic illness that requires regular blood transfusions and frequent trios to the hospital. SCA and Thalassemia effects predominantly the Black and Asian community.
The condition affects  our mental wellbeing as well as our physical wellbeing. Individuals experience extreme episodes of sudden pain called "crises" which can last from anywhere from days to weeks and usually require hospital admissions, these pains can have detrimental affects on the body causing internal problems such as heart, liver and lung problems not only that but individuals can also develop mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, chronic depression& more. Individuals with the condition are more susceptible to have sepsis and strokes. In the UK approx. 15,000 people suffer with this life long condition and 300+ babies are born with the condition each year. Children are at a greater higher risk of developing sepsis and strokes.
About OSCAR Birmingham:
OSCAR Birmingham are a charity who strive to help those within the community who suffer with the condition. They provide support to children, young people & individuals as well as families through a range of services such as befriending projects, workshops and activities for young children during the holiday period, holistic therapy and also financial support for families who are low income through household funding and hardship packages.
WHY AM I DOING A SPONSORED HIKED?
im participating as i wish to raise awareness within my community and among my peer group. As someone who has both conditions i wish to challenge myself and my abilities whilst also doing good fo my community and people.
