The National Special Olympic Games offers people of all ages with a Learning / Intellectual Disability the opportunity to compete in a variety of games. They stay at the University of Bath & compete in their chosen sport at the University or Local Sports Stadiums. This gives them a wonderful sporting experience which is also an enjoyable holiday with their own friends, supported by volunteers. Transport will be by minibus enabling them to travel to sporting events, competing for a Gold Medal.

Why they need our service

There is an identified need & proven track record that Special Olympics has a great impact on learning disabled athletes. National Games are only every 4 years & are the culmination of training & local competitions when everyone meets together. It is important to give members an opportunity to attend. However, not everyone can afford the entry fees & cost of their stay at the University of Bath in August 2013. They will benefit from this unique opportunity to be in their team & 'Go for Gold'

Plan and expected results

At the end of the week they will have had a unique 'holiday' of a lifetime, living away from home in the University of Bath and experiencing much that University life has to offer. They will have opportunities to meet old friends and make new ones, working alongside other Special Olympics Athletes, volunteers and sports people in the spirit of sport. They may be succesful in achieving their PB Personal Best, win a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal; however all will be pleased with their achievement
