Last July, a very special friend of mine, Anne Rider, died unexpectedly and I wanted to take on a challenge in memory of her and her enthusiastic dedication to the development and implementation of the outdoor curriculum at Batchwood School, St Albans. On July 16th, I participated in The Great London Swim, swimming a mile in the Thames to raise money especially for a particular recent project close to Anne's heart, which she had designed but had no time to finance or build - an outdoor classroom in the style of an Iron Age roundhouse. So many children loved and benefitted from the outdoor work which Anne did with them, and it is envisaged that this roundhouse will have a significant impact on their engagement with the curriculum. Over the last 10 months or so, Batchwood School, students and a number of volunteers have worked hard to make Anne's vision a reality - if you go past Batchwood School, you can now see a beautiful, circular roof of hand-crafted chestnut tiles behind the fence - but there is still a long way to go until this project is fully financed. Can you help me reduce the deficit and complete Anne's dream? Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my Localgiving page.
