Welcome to the Northampton Muslim Community’s Local Giving Page.
From 6th June 2016 until around 5th July 2016 is the Muslim month of Ramadan.
It is a period when Muslims fast every day from sunrise to sunset, and is one of the five pillars - or duties - of Islam. Not only do Muslims abstain from food and drink, it is also a time of deep contemplation and prayer, but crucially also charitable generosity.
Islam is a religion which requires its followers to help the poor and less fortunate throughout the year, but with a particular focus on this element during Ramadan.
While hungry and thirsty throughout the fasting day, Muslims have a constant reminder of the suffering of the poor.
Food and resources that are saved during the month must then reallocated to the needy before Eid, the celebration that marks the end of Ramadan. It is a social welfare system that is now over 1400 years old.
This year the Northampton Muslim Community wishes to support those people in the county, irrespective of their background or faith, who struggle to get enough food to eat.
We have elected to send all funds from this Ramadan appeal direct to two local Food Banks based in Northampton.
Both Food Banks work and support people in real deprivation living in Northampton.
We really hope that you will make a donation, no matter how small, to help us support this great cause.
With our warmest regards and best wishes, may peace be with you.
