A modern day, musical adaptation of 'Oliver Twist'. Oliver is raised in a series of care homes and ejected into the world on his sixteenth birthday. He is then befriended by the Artful Dodger (a Banksy type graffiti artist who is also a young drug runner for Fagin). Bill Sykes is an enforcer, Nancy a prostitute and so on. Stylistically the project would incorporate elements of street dance, hip hop and rap music performed by youths from the local community.
Why they need our serviceThis years project has been chosen as part of the 200 year celebration of Charles Dicken's work, and is a modern day adaptation of 'Oliver' with a 'Twist'. It is our desired & dedicated aspiration to help support and resurrect the East Barnwell Community Centre to full operational standard and service. This project, if successful, will play an integral part in re-establishing the centre in the heart of a community which desperately needs a positive and creative focal point.
Plan and expected resultsWe are hoping that the impact of such a project will help the re-opening of East Barnwell Community Centre, to full operational standard and service. We have contacted several prospective organisations, as only with full community support and involvement can such an ambitious project as this come to fruition. Hammer & Tong have filmed a promotional DVD with the youths from East Barnwell, explaining their interests - their input is crucial to the success of the centre and this project.
