The On Road media project supports young people in producing youth magazines, short films and other forms of media about issues they care about. Young people take part in accredited media training and skills workshops and produce content for the project. They embark on a breadth of investigative journalism and conduct research, interviews and visits, and draw on a wealth of personal experiences to offer a unique insight into the challenges of being a young person living in inner-city London.
Why they need our serviceYoung people are not given enough opportunity to have a say on issues that affect them and have a very negative image in the media. Through the project, young people can share their views and experiences, showing the positive contribution they can make and help create better understanding. In some areas, for example around health, young people do not always have access to the knowledge and information they need. Through 'On Road', young people can help inform others about such issues.
Plan and expected resultsOver the last year, young people have produced youth magazines dedicated to mental health, healthy living, conflict and drugs & alcohol. They have also made films about bullying, conflict, drugs, mental health, young parenting and many more. Check out our website to watch some of these films or magazine articles. Our media partner, Red House Lane, provide free training and support to local young people in areas as graphic design, editorial skills, and photography.
