Mayoral Year Fundraising 2024-25

The Incoming mayor of Newhaven, Pinky McLean-Knight, has selected Havens Community Hub as her good cause of the year during her mayoral tenure.

Pinky said, “My chosen organisation this year is Havens Community Hub. It includes a food waste prevention scheme that saves over 3 tonnes of food a week from being tossed into landfill and redistributes it, prioritising people and groups where it makes the most difference and helping the environment.
In the past, my family has been hard up enough to be referred to a food charity.
Thankfully, it was a temporary measure, but one that I was truly grateful to have been able to access at the time.
When my kids were younger, I was lucky to have parents who could often help us, but there were times when I was too ashamed to ask them for help.
What I love most about Havens and the Food Cooperative project is that no one goes without if they ask for help. They'll find a way, or they'll make a way. Everyone who needs help gets help.
There is no stigma or shame.
Of course, food charities like Havens Food Cooperative should not need to exist. But in our current times, I'm very glad they do.
They have to exist because they, and other fantastic charities like them, are forced to pick up the slack of struggling, underfunded authorities who cannot support people who are not able to eat.
So, I'd humbly like to offer them my Mayoral year as their patron.”
