We now have a very comprehensive Management Plan for the Hunsbury Hillfort, The Plan encompasses not only plans for preserving the Hillfort, but also plans for Husbury Hill Country Park as a whole. Work will now start to put together a bid to the Heritsge Lottery Fund, initially for funds to preserve the Hillfort, which has not been protected as it should have been from vandalism. It is a scheduled monument and as such any damage inflicted upon it by any individuals is criminal damagage.

Why they need our service

The relatively small area of West Hunsbury contains within it many archaeological and historical sites within the Country Park, the ironstone Railway and the ACRE site.It is hoped to promote the Hunsbury Hill area as a historic asset, and enable the local community, including schools and organisations, and visitors from further afield to learn about the heritage of the area. Any individual interested in archaeology would find being involved in this project very rewarding.

Plan and expected results

If the lottery Application is successful the Friends would hope to provide Hunsbury Hill Country park with a scheduled monument that is no longer at risk, with a long term management plan in place, and the provision of information about this great asset to the Park to all who visit the area, and to the local community. Together with ACRE provide a Historical route from 500BC( Hill Fort ) to the 18th Century (ACRE site) and on to the 19th Century ( the Ironstone Railway )
