Although the birthday is over, we wanted to keep the page live until the end of the month for donations to Rainbow Noir group.
Any money donated will go towards the rent we pay on our monthly meet up space, resources and refreshments, film screening fees (such as BFI film rentals) for the sessions and towards future events just like the birthday event! One thing we definitely realised at the event was the need for more events like this to connect people and inspire future activism!
At the birthday we discussed the importance of putting resource back into our own community, valuing and contributing towards the group and the effort of volunteer organisers.
Rainbow Noir celebrated their 3rd birthday on 20th March with a fantastic event, reaching over 40 people from all over the North West, providing a space for important connecting, sharing, learning, networking and conversations to happen. Both films inspired so many people and reinvigorated our passion and fire for what we do. To keep fighting, keep providing a space, keep lifting up LGBTQI people of colour and representing our community everywhere we go.
We are a voluntary social and peer support group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI) people of colour (POC) in and around Manchester. We've been running monthly meets for the last 3 years and the group has been going from strength to strength. Our meet ups are busy, our online space is thriving and over the years we've represented our community at conferences and seminars up and down the country. Supporting and giving our community a voice and pushing for more accurate representation underpins all of our work and main aims as a group.
Despite this growing reach, we still have no funding, and operate solely on the donations and voluntary time given by group organisers and members. We managed to secure a free space for our birthday event and raised money for travel costs for those in need, screening fees and refreshments.
