I currently work for a refugee charity based in Glasgow, supporting people at different stages of the asylum process, from newly arrived refugees seeking protection in the UK, newly granted refugees and people refused asylum and forced into destitution. People always ask me about my work and how they can help so I saw the Great Scottish Run Half Marathon as a great opportunity to raise more awareness about refugees, the impact the inhumane asylum system has on individuals & families and the great support networks out there who need funds to continue their work supporting refugees. Refugee Survival Trust provides a life-line to many of the people I work with whether it is someone who has been made destitute & needs emergency support to buy food and essential items or whether it is to help someone to access education & employment to support integration and promote better opportunities. Due to the increase in people being made destitute & street homeless and the recent news around forced evictions by SERCO, people are relying on these emergency grants more than ever. Knowing how essential these grants are to people who find themselves in desperate situations and seeing the positive impact they have on peoples lives, I felt inspired to do something to raise funds and awareness for this great cause. I am hoping to raise £500 or more for RST by running the half marathon, this is a massive challenge for me so I hope you can join me in supporting this great cause. Use the RST suggested donations or whatever you wish to contribute, all sponsorship gratefully received. Thanks for your support!
