The project is to build a new weekly meeting place for all Rainbows, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts from the village of Old Basing - which is in excess of 150 young people. It would also enable the camping field to be utilised fully as the building would have access to the necessary toilet facilites the local youth groups require when camping thus making this a true community asset.

Why they need our service

The existing hut has been on the site for more than 40 years, the deeds to the site were donated to us in about 1950 by Lord Camrose. Unfortunately, flooding in Jan 2009 rendered the existing building beyond use and economic repair. Our initial attempts to refurbish the building have been overtaken by structural problems and as a consequence we must build a new hut. Currently the local Rainbows, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs, Guides and Scouts have all had to find alternative meeting places.

Plan and expected results

This project will provide a desperately needed venue to replace the derelict facility, as well as bringing a new sense of purpose to our camping field. This will facilitate more outdoor activites and opportunities for our membership, as well as allowing other Districts to use our camping facilities. The new hut would enable us to move the local groups back into the village and allow 150 children each week to use the facilities at their weekly meeting as well as providing a community facility.
