It all started at the end of last year when, with the big "60" approaching faster than we would like, we decided to come up with "6 things to do before we are 60". One of Richard's was to cycle the "Coast to Coast" (www.c2c-guide.co.uk) - 148 miles from Whitehaven to Sunderland. After much deliberation we decided this would be a joint challenge. We started training in January of this year and now find ourselves only 5 weeks away! Given that Suffolk is such a flat county the hills will be a real challenge! Suffolk Accident Rescue Service (SARS) (www.sars999.org.uk/) is a local charity which is staffed by volunteer doctors and paramedics who assist the East of England Ambulance Service at the scenes of serious incidents - both accidents and serious medical illnesses. They have undergone specialist training and carry items of lifesaving equipment and drugs not found on front line ambulances. This means that members can carry out advanced procedures at the scene which are normally only undertaken in hospital. It also reduces the chance of patients suffering permanent disability or unnecessary pain. Richard heard a talk by a SARS volunteer at Bury Breakfast Club and realised how any one of us could benefit from their help at some time. We therefore decided that our pain should be their gain! SARS depends entirely on voluntary donations and will be grateful for any money raised.
