The RokerPods arrived July 2013. The pods are unique to Roker and are part of a wider regeneration of the seafront. CEED leases two Pods (there are three) from Sunderland City Council. CEED will deliver school, youth and community activities from the Pods. Activities will look at the natural environment of the sea front and nearby Roker Park, will include arts and craft sessions and also training activities for adults. The Pods have solar panels and a wind turbine to generate electricity.
Why they need our serviceThe Pods provide a unique opportunity from which to deliver a wide range of community ativities. They provide an excellent base for curriculum linked sessions and holiday fun as well as family themed activities. They are a great base from which to introduce and deliver sessions looking at the natural environment or even renewable energy. RokerPods give the community a quirky resource which provides access to outdoor events and education.
Plan and expected resultsCEED want to be able to provide a programme of holiday activites and family sessions. These will provide enriching environmental and educational activities to improve knowledge and skills. These activities will enable local people the opportunity to take part in educational activities whilst learning about important environmental issues. Outdoor activities improve peoples wellbeing - through both physical and mental health benefits.
